Good question. You’re not the first to inquire about ‘semi-formal with a splash of fun.’ 🙂 We’re hoping to have everyone wearing something a little more formal than ‘cocktail’ but not as formal as ‘black tie.’ A suit and/or jacket and slacks with tie would be fine for a man. The groomsmen will be wearing gray suits (not tuxes). For the ladies I would recommend a nice cocktail length dress, something you would wear out to dinner, but not something you would wear to the beach or for a stroll in the park. The ‘splash of fun’ is hopefully a bright tie, colorful shirt, rainbow socks and/or crazy shoes… be creative!

In response to the hotel room block question from Jennifer-Lyn:
We decided not to book blocks, all of the hotels I called were weary of it since its a very popular weekend for University or Pit and Carnegie Mellon and to do it I’d have to pay in advance. So to everyone booking a hotel; BOOK EARLY! BOOK YOUR HOTEL AS SOON AS YOU CAN! They will fill up very fast!
Do you guys have a block of rooms set aside at each of these hotels or are those just hotels that are close?

Couldn’t agree more – Fallingwater is definitely worth seeing!
I love the “things to do” while in Pittsburgh section for the out of town guests. However, if your guests follow your instructions and rent a car and will be in town for the weekend then I would also recommend a trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Fallingwater” home. It’s about 90 minutes south of downtown Pittsburgh by car but it’s a great visit for anyone interested in modern architecture. Just a thought…
